Olds Fashioned Christmas is a series of community, cultural and recreational events that came into being in 1993. It was started by the Tourism Action Committee as a way to promote a lifestyle of family in community and to attract visitors. Olds Fashioned Christmas was built on the strengths of existing community events, and today we celebrate "Olds Fashioned Hospitality" all year long.

Lots of Christmas Carolling during Olds Fashioned ChristmasOlds Fashioned Christmas starts the first Sunday in November with the potpourri and craft sales. The Potpourri Sale at Olds College brings people from far and wide. People take the day to visit our community, go to all the craft sales, enjoy some home baking with their tea and coffee and begin their Christmas shopping in a warm and friendly environment. On certain Saturdays there are free matinees for the children at the Olds theatre. There is also the Legion Christmas Party and Breakfast with Santa.

On the last Saturday in November the community hosts the Light Up Festival at Centennial Park. In 2007, it will be on November 24th. It features hayrides and games, free hot dogs and hot chocolate, a visit from Santa Claus and fireworks.

The Santa Claus Parade of Lights is hosted by the Olds Agricultural Society.

In 2001, over 300 volunteers and 11 volunteer associations and organizations worked together to make Olds Fashioned Christmas a huge success. Come and join in on the fun! The Town of Olds provides a home for the administrative support to the Olds Fashioned Christmas Coordinating Team. Olds Fashioned Christmas is organized and coordinated by a team of volunteers. This group of volunteers work with the Town Department for Community Services. The Town's motto is "Your Partner in Opportunities". Olds Fashioned Christmas is where community organizations and volunteers are working together in partnership with the Town for the betterment of the community. It is an example that a community grows when it works together.

Take the opportunity to visit our community and enjoy "Olds Fashioned Hospitality" and take in some of the events that take place during November and December. There are events happening throughout these months that are sure to be of interest to all members of your family.
